The difference between a Lawyer and a Notary starts with our education. Notary Publics in British Columbia earn a master’s degree through Simon Fraser University, followed by a large amount of professional training. We are also vetted very heavily for our ethics and our ability to act and give back into our communities.
Notaries practice in areas of law: Real Estate Law, Wills, and Estates Law. Notaries are able to do Wills, Powers of Attorney, and Health Agreements. We also do the traditional Notary Public function where we are seeing people with documents from all over the world. Effectively a lawyer comes out as a generalist and then they specialize in the areas of law.
And so we have very different backgrounds in our education, and we like to say we do happy law. We keep it very direct to the areas that we practice in.
It’s a very important part of the business that we see people to help them get their documents done properly.
